To accredit is to give official authorization to or approval of; to provide with credentials; to recognize or vouch for as conforming with a standard; to recognize as maintaining standards that qualify the graduates for admission to higher or more specialized institutions or for professional practice; to consider or recognize as outstanding.

U.S. Department of Education Accreditation

USDE accreditation is not necessary for the theological degrees in which we offer. Individuals seeking employment in government-licensed positions such as public school teachers, state-licensed psychologists or psychiatrists, and non-church-related counselors will more than likely need USDE accredited degrees. Generally speaking, people working in ministry positions do not need a USDE accredited degree. If you are pursuing education at CBIS with the intent of obtaining employment or for some other reason, you should check with that organization BEFORE applying for enrollment in CBIS. CBIS assumes no liability of any kind.

Separation of Church and State
1.             There is secular education and there is religious education.
2.             Religious schools are not legally required to become accredited
3.   Secular schools seek secular education, and sacred schools receive sacred or ecclesiastic accreditation—each by their own peers.

4.             Religious institutions need no secular accreditation because they offer no secular degrees.
5.             Secular accreditation associations in turn are recognized by governmental agencies. They trace their authority back to the capitol of a country, like Washington, D.C.
6.             Religious accrediting associations are recognized by the Church of Jesus Christ, which has no supreme central office on earth. Our authority is derived directly from Heaven.
7.             Civil and religious interests are different and have separate realms of jurisdiction.
8.             The State is not superior to the Church. The Church need not wait for approval from the secular world.
9.             Civil agencies should not be dictating standards of Christian education, any more than a police officer should be directing the worship of God.
10.          Theological Seminaries should not be accredited by accrediting associations that are “recognized” by an agency of the federal government, because it is contrary to the Biblical principle of “Separation of Church and State,” indicated by Christ when He said, “…Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s…” (Mark 12:17).
11.          What business does a Christian educator have going to the world of unbelievers for recognition and acknowledgement when 2 Corinthians 6:14 clearly tells us, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?”
12.          A Christian educational institution securing accreditation from an association which is attached to a governmental    agency is a Scripturally condemned and unholy union as James 4:4 says, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that  the friendship of the world is enmity with God?”

Why not become accredited by the Department of Education?  In many cases the government’s Department of Education is not qualified to accredit a private school, such as a Bible School, because the DOE is secular and a Bible or Christian School is spiritual thus our standards are not secular and cannot be judged by secular standards!

As we find in 1 Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Therefore a state agency is not able to determine if a spiritually directed learning institution is meeting the mandates of the Bible!

Accreditation has many benefits for both educational institutions and students, but it is neither a guaranty nor is it the sole criterion of an excellent education. Every accredited institution was once unaccredited. For example, Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) was founded in 1924 but was not accredited by SACS until 1969, long after the graduation of notables such as Dwight Pentecost, Charles Ryrie, and Chuck Swindoll. Dallas Theological Seminary was not accredited by ATS until 1994, but its excellent education before then is unassailable.

Covenant International University and Seminary Inc., doctrinal position of to which all Board of Directors, faculty and Students must adhere that of HELL IS REAL AND HEAVEN IS REAL.

 

STATEMNET OF FAITH OF

COVENANT INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY AND SEMINARY…

 We Believe:

 In God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,and life everlasting.

Each member of the body of Christ is greatly needed to fulfill and accomplish Christ’s work on the earth. 1 Pet 4:10 . In celebrating the unique bond shared by the brotherhood and sisterhood of believers with Jesus Christ as our Savior.  Actively collaborate with other brothers and sisters in Christ toward fulfilling our collective and individual purposes.  In the power of individual and corporate prayer and fasting. Est 4:16 . We should use my specific gifts and talents to nurture the worth of fellow believers and unbelievers alike.  A responsibility toward working out my own spiritual maturity and growth. Php 2:12;  Satan opposes spiritual growth, and we need to be aware of his schemes in my own life and in the lives of fellow believers.(2 Cor 2:1.); As a follower of Christ  we are called to show love and compassion to all people. 1 Pet 1:22.

That the Whole Holy Bible, which is the Old and New Testaments, is of final and supreme authority in faith and life, and being inspired by God; that special revelation is a voluntary self-disclosure of God, propositional in content and necessary for salvation; In God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, this trinity being one God, eternally existing in three persons, this Godhead being totally sovereign; and in the pre-temporal decree of God to save a definite number of mankind, and that the atonement was particular in that it was designed to bring this decree to pass;

That the origin of man was by fiat of God in the act of creation as related in the book of Genesis; that he was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred physical and spiritual death; That the Holy Spirit serves as my connection to faith. That God is represented in these three distinct entities, all three independent but completely whole as one. That man was created in the image of God. That all human beings are born with a depraved nature and are lost and at enmity with God. By virtue of this spiritual death, all men are totally unable to do that which is meritorious in God’s sight and cannot even prepare themselves for salvation. Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree;”

That the Lord Jesus is the Head of the Church, which is composed of all His true disciples and in Him is invested supremely all power for its government. According to His commandment, Christians are to associate themselves into particular assemblies or churches, and to each of these churches He hath given needful authority for administering that order, discipline, and worship which he hath appointed;

That God created, prioritizes, and deeply values marriage as the one earthly relationship of prominence second only to that with Himself. That a woman was created to be the ezer kenegedo to a man—the one who does for him what he cannot do for himself—a needed and treasured partner, companion, encourager, confidante, and lover. Gen 2:18; In the deity of Jesus Christ, that He is co-eternal and co-equal with God the Father. That the Bible record of His virgin birth, sinless life, words, works, vicarious death, bodily resurrection and ascension, and promise of His return. Christ came into the world to provide salvation for his people through faith in Him as Savior and Lord;

That husbands and wives carry weighty responsibilities to one another and to God in a covenant relationship meant to last a lifetime. That children are a gift from God and are to be treasured and cared for with the utmost of value. Ps 113:9; That our future family and family of origin are to be a priority in prayer and in care in God-honoring ways. Jas 5:17;  That Christian service includes the believer’s personal participation in witnessing, his Christian testimony in a local congregation, and his interest in and support of God’s work and His people everywhere. For a right emphasis on the time, place, and object of our Christian stewardship, we look to the Holy Spirit for guidance and leadership;

God is glorified when we affirm and nurture the worth of others— the worth He places on them Himself. Our behavior should positively impact others for the ultimate purpose of drawing them to Christ. That Follower of Christ are called to exemplify greater levels of excellence in our compassion and care, and in our behavior, actions, and speech. In acting with patience and grace, especially when it isn’t easy. That Christian living is to recognize our utter dependence upon the power of the Holy Spirit to lead us in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. That on the third day after His crucifixion, our Lord Jesus Christ arose again from the dead with the same body in which He suffered, with which He also ascended into heaven, and there sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for the saints; That our Lord Jesus Christ will in future history return bodily to this world and shall reign forever; that there shall be a future day of resurrection in which both the redeemed and the damned shall be raised from the dead, the redeemed to enjoy the estate of eternal blessedness, the damned to suffer the eternal torment of retribution. In the death of The Lord Jesus Christ,  his burial, as it is written in the Gospel and that there is no error or doubt and has been witnessed by many others in those days,  His resurrection as it has been written in the 4 synoptic Gospel, as it has been written that he is coming back again as it is written in the book of Revelation and testify by his messenger with the angel who revealed all the revelations of his messenger John.

In summary, We believe that Jesus Christ the fullness of the Godhead bodily He is our risen savior, our God and our Lord and our all in all, our everything, and of him and to him to all eternity and forever and ever. Amen

May the Grace, mercy, peace and love of God and of our risen savior Jesus Christ be with us all Amen.

Objectives

Studies at Covenant should enable the student:

1. To show a profound gratitude for the sacrificial work of Christ on his/her behalf, which will motivate him/her to lead a life of sincere and comprehensive obedience to the Word of God.
2. To exhibit Christian maturity and virtues identified in Scripture as the, “Fruit of the Spirit”, so that he/she will be able to convey Christian truth both by precept and by personal example.
3. To maintain a well ordered devotional life and a personal program of spiritual enrichment and growth.
4. To demonstrate a concern for outreach and missions by actively seeking opportunities for Christian service.
5. To manifest a consistent Christian world and life view which shows submission to the present Lordship of Christ in every area of life.

Studies at Covenant should enable the student:

            1.      To demonstrate a general knowledge of the content and meaning of the Bible.

            2.      To demonstrate knowledge of the theological system contained in the Bible, with an awareness and appreciation for the history of doctrine and the issues raised by Systematic Theology.

            3.      To locate and use effective tools for ministry, including the tools of independent Bible Study.

            4.      To demonstrate knowledge of world history, including the history of the Church.

            5.      To clearly communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others in writing, private conversation, and in public address.

            6.      To teach others the Bible and Christian Doctrine.

            7.      To express the Christian view of life.

            8.      To demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for effective Christian ministry and service.

            9.      To have an awareness of and appreciation for the great classics of Christian literature.

Academic Information

Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. is committed to providing higher education to Christians or to those wanting to be Christians. Our concern for academic excellence emanates from the belief that Christian higher education should be superior, not inferior, to that provided by other colleges and universities. The College feels that anything less than this is not to the glory of God. Therefore, every effort is made to provide the academic excellence worthy of a college dedicated to the Lord and necessary for the education of those preparing for service to the Lord in the days to come.

Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. reserves the right to alter graduation requirements when it is decided that such changes are necessary. Normally a student is graduated according to the stated requirements at the time of admission unless attendance has not been continuous. In case of readmission, requirements at the time of readmission must be met.

v  The student is required to fulfill graduation requirements within four (4) years of his initial enrollment.

v  Students are limited to four (4) college credits before filing a complete application with the College.

v  Students who have filed an application must submit a high school or GED transcript along with college transcripts.

v  Credits at CIUS will not be filed officially until all requirements have been fulfilled.

Regular attendance is not required of all students. At CIUS, it is 100% Online. Faculty members have full responsibility once a student registered a course to mentor and guide that student throughout the course period. They should implement this policy once a student registers.

Again, Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. is an Online Higher Education University. Consistent with its conservative philosophy of education, Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. believes that regular class online or off line attendance is essential for the enrichment of a student’s academic experience. Since excessive absences will hinder learning, the College faculty has established certain guidelines regarding class attendance.

Some Geographical areas in Africa will implement satellite locations where emergencies develop. All classes should be attended at that area as scheduled by that faculty member.

Report cards showing student progress are submitted after the mid-term exams and final report cards are submitted at the close of each semester.

For graduation, a student must have at least a cumulative grade point average of 2.00. Graduation with honor will be determined according to the following standards:

Student Policies 

Standard of Conduct  

The standard of conduct by which the University operates in regard to the matter of student behavior and responsibility is the Word of God. A student whose personal conduct is a poor testimony for Christ, and who fails to live in accordance with the scriptural ideals of the University, will be counseled and disciplined to the extent as the Dean of Students deems advisable. The University reserves the right to refuse admission, to put on disciplinary probation, or to dismiss any student whose personal conduct and/or attitude, in the judgment of the administration, are not consistent with the spirit and standards which the University seeks to maintain. The student attending Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. should recognize that the Word of God speaks not only to our doctrinal beliefs, but also to our lifestyle. Therefore, both on and off campus (online) students should be sensitive to the teachings of the Word of God so that their lives might be a testimony for the Lord Jesus Christ to other people and to the glory of God.

By way of example: academic dishonesty, such as giving unauthorized aid on an examination or plagiarism (the intentional or unintentional presentation of another’s work as your own), is not acceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. Both are subject to immediate dismissal.

Missed Work

The heading “Missed Work” includes, but is not limited to, quizzes, tests, exams, reports, research papers or any other class requirement by any other name/title on any specifically scheduled date.

Students are expected to take all quizzes, tests, and exams, and turn in any other work required on a specific date, if such date is assigned. If any of these items are missed, as a general rule, the missed work will be assigned 0 points when it is turned in. If the missed work is not turned in the student will receive a grade of “F” in the course.

The one exception to this general rule is an event beyond the student’s control. Examples of events beyond the student’s control include, but are not limited to, a medical emergency or sudden illness (supported by appropriate documentation, death of immediate family member, or business related travel. In this case, a grade letter “Inc” will be temporarily posted to the course.

Additional Information

The transfer of credit from Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. to any other academic institution would be at the discretion of the receiving institution if they chose to accept credits from this University.

Transcripts

Official transcripts of credit will be issued by the University upon the written request of the student, provided the student’s account is paid in full. See applicable Transcript Fees as stated on the Financial Information page.

Admission Policy  

1. A high school diploma, GED or demonstrated equivalency is a prerequisite to enrollment in Covenant International University and Seminary Inc…

2. All Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. degrees must be earned in sequential order. For example, the student must hold a Bachelor degree (or evidence of that level of education) from Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. or another school with a program commensurate with that of Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. levels of study in order to pursue a Masters degree in that field of study.

3. A Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. application for admission (Student Application) form must be completed, signed and submitted to the University, along with any transcripts, documented studies, ministry life experience application or other documents which require evaluation for credit. All documents must be submitted in order for an Academic Review to be done and the student to be placed within an Academic Program at Covenant International University and Seminary Inc..

4. An “Affidavit of Agreement” must be read and signed and accompany the application with submission.

5. An application fee of $10 per application (Student Application – $10, and Ministry Life Experience Application – $25) must accompany your application for admission.

6. All students enrolling in Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. are required to subscribe to and practice a lifestyle which is an exemplary testimony for Christ and which is in accordance with the moral and spiritual standards generally accepted by the full gospel community.

7. No person will be refused admission with Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. on the basis of sex, race or ethnic background.

8. Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. reserves the right to reject any applicant for any reason or condition incompatible with the standards, principles or purposes of the school (or should the study be deemed impractical for the applicant).

9. If, for any reason, admission to Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. is denied, any/all monies (with the exception of the non-refundable application/processing fee) will be refunded.

Low Tuition Philosophy

Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. believes that an exceptional, spiritual education does not have to cost a lot of money. We also believe that graduates of Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. should not enter the harvest fields and their service to the Lord with oppressive financial obligations.

Therefore, we have chosen not to acquire the more expensive regional accreditation. Regional accreditation allows some students of those institutions to qualify for government-guaranteed student loans and other government programs. Institutions using these student loans generally charge the highest tuition allowable, leaving the student with considerable debt at the conclusion of their education. Therefore, Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. under the auspices of Transworld Accrediting Commission International has elected a less expensive and independent accreditation.

Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. has instituted a pay-as-you-go program that allows a student to work at his or her own pace and to do so affordably.

 Student Payment Policy

The policy of the University is to provide flexibility to students regarding payment. The most desirable is full tuition payment at the time of registration for the course.

An advantage of the programs provided by Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. is the flexibility of schedule. Students can finish their programs of study or achieve their educational goals over a period of time convenient to them. Their own personal preferences, work schedules, and their own finances determine the speed at which they progress. The student should contact the Admissions Office to discuss the payment options available.

Refund Policy

Should a student prepay fees for an entire program (one year) in advance, they may receive a refund of the unused portion upon formal withdrawal from the University. The refund is calculated on a prorated basis.

Additional Information

The transfer of credit from Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. to any other academic institution would be at the discretion of the receiving institution if they chose to accept credits from this University.

Transcripts

Official transcripts of credit will be issued by the University upon the written request of the student, provided the student’s account is paid in full. See applicable Transcript Fees as stated on the Financial Information page. 

Student Application Process 

The Application Process:  

1. Completely fill out the registration/application online. Please answer all questions. If an area does not apply, write N/A (Not applicable) in the space. Any unanswered questions may delay the processing of your application. Please note that a one-time application fee of $50.00 is required for each application. Please complete the payment section of the registration/application online and pay by credit or debit card. No application will be processed without the application fee. A student may also call the Admissions Office to make this payment.

 2. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age or completed high school if pursuing a degree.

 3. Please complete and send a Transcript Request form to each college, university or Bible institute that you have previously attended. Request they send transcripts directly to the Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. Admissions Office, as all transcripts must be originals and must be mailed directly from the school to the Admissions Office. A transcript may also be requested directly from the institution and sent to:

4. If college transcripts will not be provided, submit one of the following proofs of high school graduation:

i. Copy of high school diploma

ii. Copy of GED

iii. Or equivalent

5. If applying for degree status and would like to submit your life experience for Ministry Life Experience credits, you must submit all three of the following items:

i. Complete a Ministerial Life Experience Application.

ii. A copy of license/ordination certificate, if applicable.

iii. Any supporting documentation that may help Covenant International University and Seminary Inc. evaluate your ministry experience.

iv. Application fee of $10.00 payable to Covenant International University and Seminary Inc..
